Before he joined Crewcut he's had an interesting career journey around the world, including seven years dairy farming, working in America, and owning a garden service back home in Pretoria, South Africa. He immigrated to New Zealand for his kids’ work and their future. He chose Crewcut after seeing the ad on Trade Me. “My work in South Africa was good, I believe in customer service and make sure to utilise that here,” says Mitchell. Some of his business goals include a power washer service in his business to get a second person on the team. His wife will also come out and help him when she has the time but she is studying full time to be a social worker.

In his spare time, he loves to woodcraft, though he is usually too busy with work. The skills he has appreciates that he has include accounting, time management, and people skills. His wife has always told him he has a business brain. He hasn't noticed too much of a difference when it comes to South Africans and New Zealanders other than that they support different rugby teams.

Mitchell’s advice to those who are interested in a lawn mowing business is to make sure you're clear on the round you are taking over by going through the round with the person you're buying the business off. That way you’ll have much better communication with your clients. That is key because it is so important to let all of your customers know where you are if you're running behind time. If you get to know your clients, you'll learn who'll be the best to deal with when times get rough.
