Phil from Crewcut in Nelson is someone you can honestly call a jack of all trades. While it’s evident that he has a knack for lawn care, his overall experience and skillset clearly show he has a few aces up his sleeve – all from different industries and careers around the world.
Phil started in dairy farming because he had a love for working outside and with animals. He then spent two years in London on construction sites – mainly in the refurbishment of theatres and similar establishments.
He was then in the New Zealand Army as a territorial and uses this particular career highlight as a way to relate to his veteran clients. Post-army, he played music full time, then moved to Golden Bay to work in a dairy factory for a decade.
It wasn’t long after that he was back on the move and over to the United States for three or four seasons of maize harvesting. Phil has spent much of his working life outside, and it was a natural next step to return to New Zealand and continue that trend.
He decided to take up lawn mowing because he had been mowing for his family since he was young. He had a passion for taking a “not so pretty lawn” and making it a picture of perfection. Family connections put him in the direction of Crewcut, and the rest is history.
He services much of Nelson, including Wakefield, Brightwater, Richmond, and Stoke, and his services include section clearing, lawn mowing, and spraying. Phil has a passion for Stihl equipment, and you’ll likely see him making his way around Nelson with his vehicle laden with Stihl mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
The future is looking bright for Phil. He hopes to expand, invest in tools and equipment, and service even more parts of Nelson than he already does. Phil is a man on a mission!
When he’s not busy with lawn care, he’s taking time for himself. He loves to play golf, music, tinker with vehicles, entertain people, and go fishing. In his downtime, he has also had a chance to ponder what he has learned and what advice he would give to others.
Phil believes time management and coordination have been his most significant changes since starting in lawn care. He also thinks you need to put your customers first, make sure they’re satisfied, and do your best for the right price.
