Since the early 1990s, Rick has been the go-to man for lawn mowing services in Hawke’s Bay – including Tamatea and Napier. He is well known throughout the area as a man that works hard, does the job well, and gets along with his customers. In fact, Rick says his social skills are one of his best attributes – necessary in such a customer-oriented line of work.

Rick is a trained and certified mechanic and worked in the motorcycle industry using those skills. He then moved on to training people in retail at the Salvation Army, before having a chance encounter with lawn care.

He saw an ad in the paper for a Crewcut franchise and remembered a Crewcut story he had seen in a book in a doctor’s office many years before. The branding had stuck with him, and he came to realise that it was obviously a reputable brand that would be worth being a part of.

From that point on, Rick became immersed in the Crewcut culture, building up his franchise into the success it is today. While he hasn’t branched out from lawn mowing, he does offer a few extra services for his regular lawn mowing customers.

Rick plans on being a part of Crewcut until retirement and does all of the work for himself. He mows lawns, takes care of the books, and even maintains his machinery. He believes this is paramount as you can save a lot of money if you don’t have to take your gear to repair stores all the time.
