It's All Right Not to Be All Right
Let’s be real, this year has not been easy for everyone.
Covid-19 has had a significant impact on how we interact with others, our work, and many other aspects of our daily lives. People react differently to difficult events, and some may find this time more challenging than others.
But while the Covid-19 situation came out of nowhere with no chance for us to completely prepare, the fact of the matter is that it’s here, and the only thing we can do while we wait for solutions is to change our outlook and mindset on the unfortunate situation.
We’ve been working hard to cover all our bases so we felt like it would also be helpful if we compile tools that would give some relief to Crewcut team members who are feeling sad, distressed, or distracted and worried about the future.
Supporting your own mental wellbeing
If you or those around you are concerned about how you’re feeling or your wellbeing, there are information and tools available to help you feel mentally well and get through. The Ministry of Health has provided a comprehensive list of where you can find help to manage your own thoughts and feelings, so please don’t hesitate to find the one you think will suit you and take action.
If you need to talk, free call or text 1737 to talk to a trained counsellor. They’re available day and night.

If you’re looking for self-help tools and apps, below are some online mental wellbeing tools that could help.
Concerned about your substance use and/or gambling?
During this time people may be looking to familiar habits or seeking out new ways to cope with feelings and situations. While alcohol or other drug (substance) use and/or gambling may seem like ways to cope, these behaviours can negatively impact many areas of our lives including our health, wairua (spirit), hinengaro (mind), relationships and overall wellbeing.
If you, or those around you, are concerned about your substance use and/or gambling, there are some great resources to help you identify if you need some extra support:
Is your drinking ok? (Health Promotion Agency)
Test your drug taking (Alcohol Drug Helpline)
Test your gambling (Choice Not Chance)
NZ Drug Foundation and Drug Help have information for people who use alcohol and other drugs, and those supporting them, about how to use safer, manage withdrawal symptoms and stay in recovery.
Check-in with others
If you’re not the type to reach out for support, try to make it a point to always check in – even with your strongest colleagues and even if you think they have ample support around them. You just never know and won’t ever know unless you make the effort.
Crewcut is here to help you
We’d like to support you in any way we can. After all, we are all in this industry and we feel like we are, to an extent, in a strong position to understand what’s causing you anxiety if it’s work-related (or otherwise). Please know that there is always someone from Crewcut ready to listen and let you know you are not alone.
Please get in touch with Pauli at 021 919 429 if you need an initial point of contact.
Be aware that he can only provide “unprofessional” advice, and this is just a starting point to direct you to the appropriate channel. But rest assured that we will be treating this matter with the utmost confidentiality and any information will remain strictly private.
We are all still trying to find our path through this world forever changed by the pandemic, so we hope that you remember to take care of your mental health. Whether it’s spending quality time with your loved ones in your bubble or enjoying the peace and quiet on your own while reflecting on all the good things in life, there’s nothing better than taking the time to take your mental wellbeing front and centre.
